Immediate Shelter, Compassionate Support
The Caritas Emergency Sleeping Pods offer a short-term place of safety for adults in Guernsey who have nowhere safe to stay. They are warm, private, and secure spaces designed for people who would otherwise be sleeping rough, giving them a chance to rest, recover, and connect with wider support.
Each pod can be used for a few nights at a time while longer-term accommodation is arranged. The pods are not a long-term housing option, but a stepping stone towards stability and support.
Who the pods are for
The pods are for adults aged 25 or over who have no safe place to stay. Guests must be able to use the pod safely and respect a few simple rules to help keep everyone safe. Caritas looks at each situation individually and will always try to find the right form of help, even if a pod isn’t suitable.
How to get help
If you need somewhere safe to stay, or are supporting someone who does, please contact Caritas by WhatsApp or phone. WhatsApp is the quickest way to reach us. You can also email if preferred. We’ll respond as soon as possible to see how we can help. Referrals can also come through other local charities, community organisations, or the police.
What happens next
When someone gets in touch, we’ll have a short, private conversation to understand their situation and whether the pods are the right option. If a pod is available and suitable, a short stay will be arranged. If all pods are full, we’ll add the person to a waiting list and keep in touch. Where a pod isn’t the right fit, we’ll connect them with other local services that can help.
During a stay
Each guest has their own pod, fitted with lighting, power, and a bed area. A small support pack is provided at the start of their stay, and guests are signposted towards local services for food, wellbeing, and longer-term housing. Stays are short – normally up to a week – to ensure the pods can help as many people as possible.
Rules and safety
To keep the pods safe and welcoming for everyone, guests agree to follow a few simple rules. These include treating others and the property with respect, keeping the pod secure, and not using alcohol or drugs on site. Pods are checked and cleaned between each stay. Caritas works closely with other agencies to make sure guests are safe and supported throughout.
If no pod is available
When pods are full, we hold a waiting list for people who are eligible and still need help. We’ll stay in touch and update them as soon as a space becomes available. In the meantime, we’ll make sure they have information on other services that may be able to assist.
After a stay
Before each guest leaves, we make sure they know where to turn next and that they are linked with the right services. Our aim is to help people move forward, not just find a place to sleep.
For agencies or professionals
If you are a professional or community organisation supporting someone who may need a pod, you can contact us through the same phone or WhatsApp number. We’ll confirm eligibility and respond as quickly as possible.
